The 10 Most Important Players In 2009: #7
7. Stephen Wisniewski, C (Jr.)--Finally, an upperclassman makes the list! Even with the move from offensive guard to center, Wisniewski is not only the top center in the Big Ten, but he is probably one of the Big Ten's Best 30 Players--period. As the "quarterback" of the offensive line and the one who has the unenviable job to taking over for 2008 Rimington Trophy winner A.Q. Shipley, Wisniewski must make the transition to center quickly to begin building the kind of continuity that was the offensive line's biggest strength last year. This year's version will feature 3 new faces (likely DeOn'tae Pannell, LT (So.); Lou Eliades, OG (Jr.); and Jonnie Troutman, OG (Jr.)) and fellow returning starter Dennis Landolt, RT (Sr.). It will be upon Wisniewski's broad shoulders to lead this green unit that must protect Daryll Clark and open-up holes for Evan Royster if Penn State has any hope for repeating its 2008 Big Ten Championship, or even making a run at a BCS/National Championship--that's right, I said it. National Championship. That quest begin here, at the offensive line where games are won and lost, which is why Wisniewski might even be ranked a little low on this list. Nevertheless, the offensive line must gel by the time Iowa comes to The White House on September 26, and Wiz is one of the most important pieces in that puzzle.
